Peach Orchard project underway!

The Friends and the National Park Service have partnered to rehabilitate Gettysburg's historic Peach Orchard.

The project, funded by the Friends, will last two years and will include the removal of the dead and dying trees, soil treatment and the planting of new peach trees.

When the project is complete, visitors will be treated to a peach orchard that is very similar to the orchard encountered by Union and Confederate soliders more than 140 years ago.

This project is part of Gettysburg National Military Park's battlefield rehabilitation goals, which include returning the landscape, as closely as possible, to its 1863 appearance. These efforts greatly enhance interpretation and education, making it easier for visitors to understand what happened at Gettysburg and realize the battle's importance to our nation's history!
