What is Spring Muster?

Welcome to Spring Muster 2006!

The following information will give you an overview of this year's event...

Where does time go? It seems like we just welcomed everyone for last year’s Spring Muster, and it’s nearly that time again!
We have put together a fabulous line-up of tours and programs for this year’s event, and we’re sure everyone will find something of interest.
On Friday evening (April 21) , you’ll be able to choose from the popular Baltimore Street walking tour or the historic church walking tour–both back by popular demand. And if you’re not in the mood for a walking tour, stop by the Members’ Lounge at the Eisenhower Hotels–we’re adding some new activities that you won’t want to miss (it really will be something different!), and it’s a great chance to meet Friends from all over the country! The Quartermaster Store will also be open so you can stock up on books, Friends’ clothing and other souvenirs.
Saturday (April 22) will begin with the traditional selection of tours and programs; we’ve added a couple of indoor programs for those of you who are not interested in tromping the battlefield, and for those of you who are, you’ll see that each tour has been rated easy, moderate or strenuous. We have done our best to work with the guides for accurate ratings. Please understand, though, that most of these tours will entail a good deal of walking and standing (which we know some of you look forward to!).

Don’t forget to pack a good pair of walking or hiking shoes and a bottle of water. You might also want to pack some sort of raincoat–the weather in Gettysburg in April can be quite unpredictable!
On Saturday evening, the Friends’ Board of Directors will host a business meeting (also back by popular demand) to bring you up to speed on our accomplishments and plans (5 p.m.). Happy Hour will begin at 6:15 p.m. and will feature a cash bar and previews of auction items. The buffet banquet will begin at 7:15 p.m., followed by the live auction at 8:15 p.m.
Sunday morning (April 23) will feature the First Corps breakfast (invitations will be mailed to all First Corps members), and if you’re not a First Corps member, it’s easy to upgrade, just call our membership department at 717-334-0772 ext. 222. The annual March for Gettysburg will also take place Sunday, and details can be found on pages 16-17 of this newsletter.
Remember to get your registration in early, as tours fill up quickly, and reservations are taken on a first-come, first-served basis. Even if your preferred tours fill up, we hope you’ll still plan to join us for this fabulous event–all designed to enhance your visit and support the Friends and its wonderful work for the Parks at Gettysburg. The price for Saturday’s programs (including the banquet) is $120 per person (higher this year because of our increasing costs).
We hope you will plan to join us for this special weekend, and we look forward to seeing our returning Friends and some new faces!

Regards,
The Friends’ Spring Muster Team
