Gettysburg Foundation to host
5th Annual Remembrance Illumination
in Soldiers’ National Cemetery

Gettysburg, PA (Nov. 13, 2007)—The Gettysburg Foundation will present the fifth annual Remembrance Illumination this Saturday, Nov. 17, from 5:30-9:30 p.m. in the Soldiers’ National Cemetery at Gettysburg. More than 3,500 luminary candles will be lit on the graves of Civil War soldiers; the event is free and open to the public.

“The Gettysburg Foundation is committed to enhancing preservation and understanding of the heritage and lasting significance of Gettysburg,” said Robert C. Wilburn, president of the Foundation. “We are honored to present this event as a testament to those who sacrificed so much and have such an important place in American history.”

Visitors will be able to enter the National Cemetery via both of its entrances—Baltimore Street and Taneytown Road (across from the National Park Service visitor center). In keeping with the solemnity of the event, the Foundation asks that flash photography be kept to a minimum. Parking is available in the National Park Service Visitor Center and Cyclorama Center lots. Visitors should note that this event will be cancelled in the event of severely inclement weather—such as heavy rain or high winds.

The Gettysburg Foundation is a private, nonprofit educational organization working in partnership with the National Park Service to enhance preservation and understanding of the heritage and lasting significance of Gettysburg. The Foundation is in the midst of its $125 million Campaign to Preserve Gettysburg, which includes construction of the new Museum and Visitor Center at Gettysburg National Military Park, scheduled to open in April 2008.
