Volunteer Senior Rangers Needed
to Spruce Up Ike's Farm

The staff of the Eisenhower National Historic Site and the Adams County Office of Aging invites active, older citizens to participate in the Volunteer Senior Ranger Corps. On Thursday, May 1, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. volunteers are needed for the annual cleaning and preservation of Eisenhower's farm equipment and cars. The barns will also be spruced up by removing cobwebs, cleaning windows and sweeping floors. This project will prepare the site for the busy summer season. Lunch will be provided.

In addition to the May 1 event, the Volunteer Senior Ranger Corps currently has several projects underway. For volunteers interested in indoor work, a project to convert original oral history tapes to audio CDs is underway. Volunteers are also needed to serve as videographers for special events and to film guest speakers. The site also needs a volunteer who has the skill to take publication-quality photographs. Scanning of the Eisenhower photograph collection and re-cataloging of the Eisenhower artifacts also continues.

Outdoor projects include tending the Eisenhower vegetable garden. All the supplies and seeds are provided and volunteer gardeners get to keep the harvest. Volunteers are needed to interpret at the Eisenhower show barn explaining the history to the public. Training and reading materials are provided. Volunteers also help with parking for World War II Weekend and build or paint fences as needed.

For more information or to volunteer for the farm equipment preservation and barn project, contact Linda Thompson at 334-9296, or 1-800-548-3240.
