Thursday,
July 1
11 a.m.: “The Civil War Comes to Baltimore Street”
Join us for a neighborhood walking tour that takes a look at the
battle--from the civilians’ as well as the soldiers’
perspective! ($6 per person, proceeds benefit Friends of the National
Parks at Gettysburg’s preservation efforts)
12 p.m.: “Alfred Waud, Battlefield Sketch Artist”
Living historian John Rapp will speak about this popular artist
who captured battlefield scenes and had his work published in
Harper’s Weekly in the 19th Century.
1 p.m.: “Lincoln’s Speech”
Join Licensed Battlefield Guide Roy Frampton as he speaks about
President Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address, one of the most
famous speeches in American history.
1 p.m. “Civil War for Families”
Historian Cathy Charnley will host a program that children of
all ages will enjoy! Play a game of “Guess the Generals”!
Children--have your photo taken in a soldier’s uniform!
Taste some Civil War-era food!
4 p.m.: “Gettysburg—The First Day”
NPS Supervisory ranger/historian D. Scott Hartwig will take a
closer look at the first day’s fighting. Scott is one of
the most noted Civil War historians in the country; he has appeared
on the History Channel and has authored several articles and books.
5 p.m.: “The Other Maine troops at Gettysburg”
Popular NPS ranger/historian Eric Campbell will offer insight
into some of Maine’s soldiers who fought here at Gettysburg.
6 p.m.: Topic TBD
Historian/author Ed Bearrs is a nationally renowned expert on
the Civil War. Don’t miss your chance to meet him!
6-8 p.m.: Book signing, Q & A
Jeff Shaara, author of Gods and Generals, will be on-hand to sign
books and answer your questions. Don’t miss this rare opportunity
to meet one of the most famous novelists in the country!

Join NPS ranger/historian Karlton Smith as he takes talks about
this Civil War naval commander.
1 p.m.: “Winfield Scott Hancock”
Author/historian Perry Jamieson will discuss Hancock’s role
during the battle.
2 p.m.: “Command and Control Failure, Longstreet…”
Popular Licensed Battlefield Guide Wayne Wachsmuth will examine
command and control issues in the Confederate Army of Northern
Virginia during the Gettysburg Campaign.

Join author/historian
Deb MacCauslin as she talks about the first man to fall during
the Battle of Gettysburg.
5 p.m.: “75th Anniversary Reunion of the Battle
of Gettysburg”
Author/historian Bill Styple, who has produced a DVD about the
75th reunion and anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg, will
share his insight into this “last great reunion” of
the soldiers who fought here.
6-8 p.m.: Book signing, Q & A
