THE REMAKING OF
THE GETTYSBURG BATTLEFIELD
FIVE TIMES OVER!

featuring professor and author Dr. Benjamin Y. Dixon

Saturday, JULY 26, 2008

This presentation will showcase how much the Gettysburg battlefield and park has changed over the past 145 years. Participants in this seminar will see firsthand how the park's monuments, structures, scenery, stories and other physical and interpretive features have cumulatively changed to preserve and present a definitively different version of the battle for the visiting public since 1863.

Using rare battlefield photographs, maps, stories and newspaper reports, a morning slide and lecture program will engage participants in contemporary tours of Gettysburg set in 1863, 1904, 1940, 1970 and today. An afternoon battlefield bus tour of Gettysburg National Military Park will feature several stops and highlight many of the relics and remnants of the battlefield's past changes still extant in the landscape today.

Dr. Dixon has acquired more than 4,000 historic photographic images and maps of the Gettysburg Battlefield and has spent 10 years researching battlefield and park changes since 1863. The program is based on his forthcoming book, The Gettysburg Battlefield: Remembering America's Greatest Battleground from 1863 to Today.
