Antietam’s Knowns and Unknowns: Two Historians Take on America’s Bloodiest Day
Writing a truly useful battlefield guide invariably presents challenges of many kinds, some predictable and others quite unexpected. During this evening session, the authors will explain how they developed the "six questions" that shape the narrative at each of the twenty-one stops in their new Field Guide to Antietam and the specific concerns each raised. The authors encourage you to bring your questions! This program begins at 7:00 p.m. at the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor Center. Light refreshments will be served at 6:30 p.m.

The Civil War’s Bloodiest Day: Antietam, September 17, 1862
This will be a full-day tour of the Antietam battlefield, led by Carol Reardon and Tom Vossler. They will identify key spots, provide orientation to the terrain, and ask six questions that will enlighten participants about the battle action, commanders, troops, casualties, local civilians and much more. Most stops will require little walking and can be considered easy. At least three stops will require some walking up or down slopes or on grass paths and should be considered in the moderate range. The tour will depart from the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor Center at 8:00 a.m. and return at approximately 5:30 p.m. Space is limited, so be sure to reserve your seat early.
Following a day of touring, join fellow First Corps members in the Refreshment Saloon after hours at the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor Center for a private buffet dinner and silent auction.
